The Italian government has designated Ravenna as the Italian Capital of Culture 2015. The city will share this title with the other finalist cities in the competition for the European Capital of Culture 2019, Cagliari, Lecce, Perugia and Siena.
The title of Italian Capital of Culture is thus the result of our bidding process for 2019, the high value of which was praised by the government and by the commission itself.
This extraordinary experience has enabled us to mobilize thousands of citizens and bequeathed many ideas and projects concerning the future of the city. As the Italian Capital of Culture, Ravenna is given the opportunity to keep part of that legacy alive by implementing its projects to be scheduled until 2021 at least, when we’ll celebrate the centenary of Dante Alighieri’s death.
Meanwhile, in 2015 Ravenna will try to honour its title by promoting the programmes of many cultural players of the city, organizing specific events and taking measures to revitalize some cultural containers.
